Any thoughts about converting a Forward-Control to power steering? I have
come across a company which do 'Steering Assist' for Ford pick-ups (Rodley
Motors, it's a powered track rod) and wonder if this is adaptable to other
vehicles, especially a forward-control.

I researched power steering rams a while ago. Never got anywhere with
it but did manage to identify that a number of tractors have these as
standard kit... and if it'll work on a tractor then no reason why it
won't work on a 101.

One of our group members fitted a Chris perfect kit on a 109 but was
unimpressed with the end result.

If you mean this kind of system, then it's readily available for
series landrover, and the forward control would take the same system
with minor modifications

I'd be wary of the travel of the unit. The 101 has a cracking lock on
it and the ram may well be short in the travel.

poor turning circle on my SIII was traced to a too-short steering damper.
removing it makes it better and doesn't compromise the driveability, unlike
with a 110. Don't know if it's a correct SIII item or not.

Obviously this depends upon which flavour of 'forward control', but I
thought about it for my 101 some (many) years ago and abandoned the
idea in favour of a complete PAS conversion instead.

Agreed, but the IIa/IIb FC uses the same steering setup as a standard
series, so will be correct.

Problems with the travel on the 101 lock could probably be corrected
by re-arranging the geometry of the ram layout and trackrod, something
that would be a necessity anyway, as the mounting point will be
incorrect to start with.

Possible , I was thinking along the lines of the ram travel in either
direction possibly not being enough to meet the extra travel the 101
has (I believe) over the series.. maybe just perception but definately
better than the 88".

If that was the case then I'm sure a ram with a longer travel could be
sourced.

Sadly this is way down my wish list at the mo.
