Thing is how tight is tight? I know it's an interference fit but tightening until you can't tighten no more will still be tight even as it's turning not pulling can only be but a few nm
 
I too have been thinking about this problem. The only way I can seethe taper being held correctly, is to use a 2 piece extension. This could consist of a cup shaped lower section, it's bottom would be machined to match the track rod end taper. This would allow the joint taper to be fastened correctly with the lock nut.
The upper inner edge of the cup section could be threaded with a large fine thread. The upper section would consist of the taper and thread as on the current single piece extension. On the lower part of the upper section would be a thread to screw it into the lower section. There would need to be a shoulder on the upper section to tension the thread. This would prevent bending and help keep dirt and water out.
Hopefully that makes sense.
This is I feel, the safest way forward with this idea.

Similar concept to mine but better!! Could rapidly be turning into an engineering masterpiece!! For me it has to be something like this though. While I accept that thread lock would hold the existing design in place, too much torque would be lost in the friction between the two taper surfaces and no matter which way you look at it, the taper isn't in far enough or seated how it should be.

The key bit here is "in my opinion". A taper is designed to be drawn in up to a specified torque (as you know!), and I just wouldn't have enough confidence in one that has been turned in. I may be wrong (and if you ask the wife I usually am!), it's just something that would trouble me!! I think the concept is fantastic but a two piece design would be the way forward for me. :)
 
What about a cranked steering rod arm??? like this but with a bigger crancked bit.

The joint passes over the top of the chassis rail so would still catch I did look into this option,

I think I will fit it and see what happens (offroad) a two part piece would be great but as it is these were 60 quid for the pair and I think that it could end up very quickly becoming an expensive part. For it to be split would add a weakness a point for water ingress and also double up on machine cost
 
Really want to get this under way now, but struggling to save the penny's for tyres and spacers.... Don't want a 2 inch lift and puny rubber 👎 such a shame that the wheel arches are not bigger, got a cracking set of 265 75 16 BFG muds sitting there doing nothing
