Hi all, just got a defender 90 2014, when I turn the steering from cold, it grinds and judders and the brake pedal judders, when this happens the traction control shows up on the dashboard and stays on cutting the power for 5 seconds and then the steering becomes fine with no grinding or peddle issues, but only when the traction control light comes on, someone said it could be a fault in the abs, that’s why the traction kicks in and over rides the problem, hence then drives fine, any ideas please it’s driving me nuts and dangerous when I first move off.

Check the power steering fluid level and brake fluid level as first port of call. If these are ok then get it onto a diagnostic tool and get the fault codes. Not sure if the steering system is investigated by the diagnostics but I will check. The ABS system is controlled by a separate computer thingy and will show fault codes. I don't think the two problems are connected unless its something physical such as the brakes juddering = wheels juddering = steering juddering.

Just an idle thought; Is the transfer box set or stuck in diff-lock? That can make the front wheels skip and jump when steering is applied.
