Before I get the usual "ffs" post I have done some research but not found an answer.
After selling my boost alloys (For £500 :D) I am left with only four steel modular wheels so need a spare. My Defender Td5 90 has 235/70/R16 insa turbo dakar muds so I need something similar as a spare. I looked at my wheels to read the offset (as it should be stamped/engraved) but all I could find was 'GA WHEEL 16x7 08 2008'.
I have tried measuring the offset but it's kind of awkward with the wheels fitted and I think it is around 40mm.
I have spoken to someone at Simmonites and they have said thier steels have "a slight" offset! I don't want to be sold 'a pup'. This is the first set of steels I have bought and was wondering if they come with a variety of offsets or are most the same?
I don't have any spacers or suspension mods/lifts etc so my 90 is fairly standard.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated and anyone with a single, grey modular steel for sale should PM me for a cash sale:D

put a piece of wood that just reaches the edges of the rims then measure in to the flat plate that fits to the hub

Cheers guys but the offset should be measured from the centre of the beed to the mounting plane of the studs. The rims will be further out than the centre of the bead. I used a steel rule and a depth guage and got a reading of around 40mm. Is offset staged in 5, 10mm gradings or just totally random?
I was pi**ed off with simmonites for just saying their wheels had a slight offset! Ffs!

Not true the Offset is the distance from the hub plate to the centre of the wheel. so ya need the total width of the rim divided by 2 to find the centre of the rim. The offset is the distance from outer edge of rim to hub. Minus half the rims width.

Actually with 80mm one side and 120mm the other My offset might really be 20mm. I wish I hadn't had that second pint of cider now! My brain hurts!
