Hi all, I drive a 95 disco with a 300 tdi engine. In cold weather I turn on the ignition, wait for the glow plugs to heat up, the battery, which is a year old, turns the engine over sluggishly as I would expect for frosty conditions but the engine won't fire for several turns of the key approx 30 - 60 secs of cranking. The engine has done 132k miles and I can't find any history of the glow plugs being changed. Could this be the problem if not ???? Any ideas chaps, regards.

if u are ok with spanners, take the glow plugs out and turn on ignition, see if they glow red(dont touch if they do ) will take you 5 mins

If you have a multimeter/ammeter; to save taking the plugs out, just disconnect the wire from the top of a glow plug, and put the meter onto the wire and the other onto the terminal on top of the plug, then have someone turn the ignition on, or make sure you can see the meter from the cab. Watch the meter, does it draw about 10amps or more? Then its good, do this for them all... if you find one out, do the lot, because the rest will follow.
