Starting Problems

Hi guys, have recently replaced the starter motor because the old one kind of encountered some fire!
However on replacement of the motor the car started first time, hooray i thought and then in the morning in the frost it started again! After getting the car to work it failed to start when i left and couldnt get it going the day after.
The car turns over but doesnt fire up, im thinking spark plugs or the distributor? anyone encountered anything similar? is it worth getting a radiator muff? or something to keep the engine warm during the cold?

good grief your not having much luck are you! Dont know a helluva lot about petrols except from my biking days......

Have you had the plugs out? You can tell alot about how the engines running from the plugs, rich/lean mixture etc but for starting check they're not all carboned up then check to see if you've got a nice blue spark not a weak orange one.

If your sparks good and you've not fiddled with the timing then I'd guess a fuel issue.

Seeing as you've just changed your starter and it worked but now doesn't it might just be you've disturbed a connection.......and this cold weather makes old insulation very brittle.

I get extremely upset when mine wont start.......it can fall apart around me and I'll happily put it back together on the side of the road but when it wont start......:mil36:

oh yeah.....forgot to say.........got carpet behind my grill in this weather else my heater doesn't work at all......with the carpet it nearly works.....

thanks beasty, yeh a few starting problems, but when we're all straigtened up it will be great. will check the plugs today!! cant see us being to busy at work.

When you turn it over can you see any exhaust? I sometimes have to prime my carb. when it's very very cold. It needs a good cleaning and servicing really, but try a very small amount of petrol in the top of the carb, a tablespoonfull!
