I've looked around in here but can't seem to find a answer, can anyone give any suggestions?
The car is a pain to start when it's been stood overnight or all day at work.
I've checked the injector harness for oil and that's bone dry and changed the glow plugs.
I've also done the pump throttle till engine management light flashes and had a diagnostic done which showed no faults.
I'm running out of ideas. Fuel return valve sticking? I'm no mechanic as you can tell.

air bleed valve( rear outer connection of the fuel filter housing, google out WJN500110) or injector seals IMO...take them in this order;)

Thanks for that Sir. I've got the seals so I'll order the valve and hopefully sort it. Much appreciated. :)

I don't know how old your battery is, but mine became hard to start from cold with a battery that was a few years old. The battery seemed fine and would spin the engine easily but it would not catch and fire. Something to do with the voltage drop due to the drain from the starter not leaving enough to run the ECU and injectors from what I've read. Changed the battery and no problems since.

I hope you're wrong Jed, my missus said its the battery and I told her she was barking, that's gonna be a massive slice of humble pie if it is that.

I was going to change the battery soon but just as a preventative before winter, I don't know how old it is, might do it now though on that bit of advice.

Called at the ASDA tonight, 15 minutes from work so warmed up and the bloody thing wouldn't start. Took a good couple of minutes.

Update. I'm still waiting for the air bleed valve to come so I had a mess around with the old one. Took the plastic filter out & pushed a pin through the hole and scraped the filter from the three holes at the front until I could suck air, & diesel, through both ways. Put it back together, purged the system, and left for four hours and it started 1st touch of the key. I'm hoping this has cured it until the new part gets here, I'll find out soon enough I guess.

Big thanks for the help, greatly appreciated.

One concern while I was underneath was a kink in the red fuel line, I'm changing them next pay day but would this have any effect on anything? I cant find a diagram anywhere.

without that you might need to purge it after long rests

Do you mean the filter in the valve Sierrafery? I'll be putting the new one in once its here. Really appreciated the advice on this problem Gents.

Been out three times now and first turn every time, not getting the excessive noise from the pump either. :clap2:

i meant that if you drive it so(without proper valve) then leave it more to rest you MIGHT have to purge the system with the 5 pedal method cos without that valve air will accumulate in time

Thanks for that. Hoping the new one will be here Monday with a new fuel filter, I'll let you know if anything happens in between.

Well, it got me through to today with the bodge until the new bits arrived.
Changed the valve & fuel filter and she started first touch of the key.

Thanks for all the help and advice, hopefully one day I can give something back.
