Hi everyone,

I have a automatic X reg Freelander V6, and it has been working great. All of a sudden, it decided not to start today. When trying to start the car, nothing happens, just clicks. I thought it might be the starting motor, but I realised that the windows goes up and down very slowly, and when I tried the wipers at full speed, they just goes at normal slow pace. So, I put the battery on charge, despite the green indicator showing that it is in good condition. After 10 hours charging, I tried it again, all the same, nothing has improved. I couldn't call the Green Flag roadside assistance out since the car is parked outside my house, and my membership does not cover home recovery. Any idea anyone? Do I need a new battery? Mobile mechanic, or a mobile auto-eclectician? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I have left the battery to charge overnight, never had any problem with it before. The car is parked in silly place on the drive that I can't get any car near it to try to jump start it. I will try to get it towed onto the main road tomorrow, and try to start it with jump leads. Hopefully, it is the battery since that seems to be the least costly solution, and if it doesn't fully charge overnight, I will get a new one. Strange thing is that, whenever I connect and disconnect the battery, I notice that the rear windows has been wound down by itself.

It sounds like a healthy battery but bad connection somewhere. Trace the main battery cables to the earth point and the starter solenoid and check the condition of the connections. Also make sure the battery connections themselves are clean and tight.

The rear window has to lower to recalibrate itself after battery disconnection/re-connection

Well, after 24 hours of charging the battery, nothing has changed, still the same problem. When starting the ignition, you just here click click, no engine turning, nothing. Checked the wiring from the battery, and I can't see anything loose. To be honest, I know nothing about cars, all I know is that you drive it to the Tesco petrol station, fill it up, and there you go, whatever happens under the bonnet, is better to be left to the experts. Mind you, I have been driving for over 30 years. Guess, I'll have to call out an auto-electrician. Thanks for all people who read my cry for help, and specially those who tried to help.

Take a good battery out of another car and carry it over to your freelander and atleast try to jump start it with the good battery.

When/if you can prove the battery is OK then suspect the starter motor and corroded or loose wiring.
Have you checked the connections and the engine earth straps?

I have ordered a new battery. It will arrive tomorrow. Lets hope that does the trick. Called Green Flag today, but they said that my cover says that they will come to me if I need assistance at least 1/4 mile from home, otherwise, I have to pay them £86 call out charge, a bit of rip off since the Rescue Plus membership which covers home call, is only £63 per year.

I bought a new calcium battery from performancebatteries.co.uk at just under £50, half the price of Halfords own brand, and with free next day delivery. When it arrived, I connected it, and it was wonderful to hear the sound of the engine again. Thank you all for your help and advice. :clap2:
