I hope I'm in that right area to ask this.

I have a 2011 Freelander 2 with an annoying intermittent problem. Occasionally when I put the fob into the ignition slider, nothing happens engine wont start, no instrumentation nothing. Or sometimes the engine starts but no instrumentation and occasionally I'll get messages telling somethings open, when it isn't, or there's a catastrophic transmission failure. The problem occurs with both fobs so confident its not the problem.

Does anyone have any ideas please ?

Sounds like it's missing data packets on a bus to me. How is the vehicle battery? If it's more than 4 years old, then I'd start with that.

When you put the fob in it should unlock the steering. Until it does that the ignition won’t come on. Sometimes it’s just a case of jiggling the steering.

That's a good call, and reminds me that I need to disable my steering lock.

When were the fob batteries last changed for new ones ? do all doors open from the fobs ok
Still got the original batteries, but the doors have always opened no problems. Got a quote from the local dealer for £200 each to check the fobs plus an additional cost to replace them, decided against that option.
Thanks for the suggestion
