Starting Problem.

Problem first started on Saturday morning, when you put the key in to start it you get a click and thats it, after 3 attempts it turned over perfect and fired as normal, all day it was fine after repeated stop starts, again this morning it clicked and nothing, i do have all dash lights and the battery is perfect, after removing the keys and trying again it fired fine.

It has done it today after the wife left it in work for 5 hours, it does start after repeated attempts of removing the keys but its becoming a pain.

1: Immobiliser problem ?
2: Starter Motor ? Going to tap it gently 1st with a hammer.

Your thoughts would be welcome.

Had the same problem (or similar) with my 98 xedi, on turning the key sometimes a pause before starting (no Click but all dash lights on), other times no luck until I removed the key and tried again.

Had starter/soloniod tested and OK, Immobiliser OK, turned out fault was in the actual ignition switch at the end of the barrel.

Happened with mine before. It was the starter motor.

It failled again this morning, i removed the engine cover and tapped the starter with an Irish Screwdriver and it started fine after.

Now the search for a starter today.

Happened to mine...It's the solenoid. Can be replaced but best to replace the whole starter unit

I can get the starter reconditioned with a 12 month warranty for £40 with a same day return of the starter.

The slight problem is i have to remove it and her to be without the car for the day whilst its repaired, but its that or it failling without notice.
