I've tried a a couple.of batteries and don't think it's that end. Will try the ignition switch this weekend I think!

Sounds like the ignition switch but check your main earth first.

Hi All, Back on this again after fixing other bits! Took the starter off tonight and it works fine on the bench. Ignition switch is all wired in properly. Is there a relay somewhere I can try changing? If so where? Thanks.

Also the starter is just earthed by being attached to the block. Should it have an additional earth?

i think 3 10mm bolts and starter body should do as an earth, though you do need to ensure body ,chassis and engine/transmission are earthed well to each other
