starting probelms td5

since the big freeze i have been having starting probems at 1ts it wasnt problem as i could get it started but its getting worse and i feel it may chuck it soon, its 03 plate td5, any ideas or even better does anybody know any mechanics that can work on these trucks in glasgow or renfrewshire need to get this sorted

also when i do get it started and heated up and give it good run if i stop and turn the engine off for 30min or longer i have hassel gettin it started again

Dont know any mechanics specifically, but I can recommend a garage in Larbet Falkirk - Gemm 4x4. They specialise in Landys, especially defenders and they wont rob you either. There is and independant landrover garage in Glasgow called Monarch, but Im not sure how good/cheap they are.
Stick a post on the Scottish Landrovers Owners Club (SLROC) forum, you might get someone local willing to help.

Good fix!

Now buy a box of cheap filters and carry three of them in the Landy all the time.

TD5 can go out like a light (literally) because of a stuffed fuel filter, but it's a ten minute roadside fix if you have a spare filter in the car.
Learn how to PRIME the fuel system of a TD5. That's a good trick to know.

Filling the new filter with clean fuel (or petrol, kero, white spirit) makes the job better, and if you do it, you may not need to do the priming stunt.

TAKE GREAT CARE when changing TD5 fuel filters to REMOVE BOTH OLD O-RINGS, the big obvious one AND THE SMALLER CENTRAL ONE, and then make sure the new filter has two new o-rings fitted to it, and that they are greased. Greasing the O-rings makes them seal far better, and ensures the O-rings don't get wrinkled-up.

The smaller central O-ring has a bad habit of sticking to the filter head, where you won't see it, and if you then fit the filter with both new o-rings, there will be two smaller O-rings in place. The filter will probably not screw home fully, and the main O-ring may leak. Been there, done that ... OOOPs!

There were THREE small O-rings in mine when I took it off to fix 'the leak'.

Good point regarding the O rings. I always have at least one spare fuel filter stashed in me battery box.
