Hello all, I have come over to the world of disco from the land of defender.
Just bought a 1999 disco 2 after selling my beloved defender after 12 good years of owning it. So after 3 weeks of owning it it has started to go wrong, so at least it’s a proper Land Rover. Every now and again it will start, run for a few seconds then cut out and after that it just cranks and cranks without starting until the battery dies. It’s happened twice now in 10 days. I have change the glow plugs and that hasn’t helped. The recovery man who came out the first time, spayed some magical start jizz into the big tube that goes from the inter cooler, I think, and it fired up with a lovely big cloud of smoke. He said I shouldn’t use it too much as it’s like crack for cars. So why is it happening? I why does it start with the spray start stuff?
Please help!

With spray it will start even with the ECU unplugged as long as it cranks to gain compression, it's completely irrelevant and not recommended, as said make sure the pump is running and if it is the crank sensor comes as suspect or injector copper washers, these are the most common but can be something else too... it needs to be properly diagnosed.

The pump makes a noise like an air compressor starting up only quieter. I don’t know the purge procedure but I’ll google it. Thanks for the help! Kind of miss my old 300tdi a little bit. That was so easy to fix

It runs lovely most of the time and this has only happened twice with 10 days happy motoring in between
