ermmmm what starter relay ?

mine used to be under the air filter, now its an integral part of the starter motor.
maybe he's confusing it with the solenoid

maybe - but a solenoid and a relay are electrically identical - but yu is rite i did read relay as solenoid
do you see any volts across the starter? - either the big red wire or the little brown one?
ah well maybe that's why it's not working
have you got a circuit diagram ? (i'm assuming yer voltmeter is working) - you'll probably have to do some wire tracing but the solenoid feed will come from the ignition switch
you should have 12v on the big wire connected to the starter - it's the little brown one that's only live when you fire it up

try putting a screwdriver across the two terminals on the solenoid, if the engine turs over then you know the solenoid is shagged
did he go offline after doing what yella suggested ? - wonder if he didnt read yer warning and is now embedded in a wall trapped by a series 3
