AY UP WAMMERS , you still up ???????? way past yer bedtime , happy new year ,

reilly , is alternator throwing good charge out??? and is your battery holding good charge ??????? .cheers mozz

to answer everyone, yes that one, figured it may be clutch already , and finally to my new best friend ,not mine, vehicle will not start,so all i can check is battery charge, could stick a charge / good battery on but if still a non starter i am still not any closer to a definitive answer

If the starter motor is spinning think of it this way. Starter is the pre engaged type. No power is put to it until the bendix is engaged on the ring gear. Providing you have teeth on the ring gear and teeth on the bendix. And they are engaged and the starter is spinning the only thing it can be is the sprag clutch.

wammers everything you are saying makes perfect sense, that was my initial train of thought...however as the car stopped idiling suddenly immeadiately prior , a low current "may" still be a factor......i would be still sure you are right though but i would like to eliminate this cutting out business "before" i go near anything...thanks however

Ok carry on. You obviously don't need my input.

Sudden stop, perhaps the fly wheel has fallen off LOL Nothing for the starter to engage with and no signal from the CPS.

Think the pre engaged starter motor concept has been lost somewhat. Unless the engagement arm has failed in the starter and the bendix is not being moved forwards, if it's spinning it HAS to be engaged. I have had this on a Disco, spinning starter, failed sprag clutch. No turny enginey overy. :):)
