Starter motor problems

Hi i am having problems with my starter motor. turn the key and it just clicks ive charged the battery then took it off to see if it had seized but it turns ok then when i connect a battery to the terminalsthen short the ignition wire terminal it it shoots the cog out but dosnt turn then if i short the solenoid starter link wire it turns you reckon its just knackered or have u any other ideas.

clean out the plunger and spring in the solonoid housing.

this sounds interestin', mines is ferked anaw!!!! (ah think

) Sometimes starts furst time, then after a short run to stop at shop on the way home, it'll take 2 or 3 goes tae finally kick in!!!! Dae ye's think this is the same kinda thing?

Had the same problem on my TD5. replaced the contacts and plunger cost me £20 and 1hours graft.

Cheers all i took the solenoid off and cleaned up the plunger and its working on and off now so least it starts but now ill order a new plunger and contacts now i know you can get them Landy zone to the rescue again
