As above just struggled putting new starter on 200 tdi and went to start it and same thing again clicking it’s a 1988 Csw there’s no relays in fuse box so I’m stumped as to what it is,any of you lads any ideas.Tia Ed

Have you cleaned all the connections to the starter and checked your engine earth?
i assume battery is fully charged and good of course;).

The solenoid isn't getrting enough power to close the contacts. This could be one of 4 reasons,
1_ yout battery is low
2_ you have a bad earth (typically this is the earth from the gearbox to the chassis)
3_you have a bad connection on the starter solenoid or the battery
4_the starter solenoid is faulty (unusual but it can happen)

No 1 or 2 is my guess

Earth cables, they are crap!
My 200 has one from bat earth to chassis, another from battery earth to engine, and a third from engine to chassis, before these extra cables it was real slow to turn over on the starter.
To test earth cabling put jump lead from battery earth to the engine.

No relay on the starter circuit, its all done form the ign switch.
