on going issue with the starter, since the HP Pump was changed.

Turn the key, starter motor screams but is not engage to the fly wheel.

Leave it a little while and it starts fine.

Sometimes rolling the car a little makes it work, in neutral (its an auto bod td4) sometimes not.

Bought a solenoid refurb kit off of ebay and fitted it. the issue want away for a day, but it failed again this morning.

Short of getting and fitting a new starter motor, what else can I do to sort it?

I'm starting to think that the flywheel is damaged, which is major hastle!

Test starter in vice with jump leads and lump of wood to test gear.

Check ring gear teeth

Hmm, worth taking the starter out, and rotating the engine (rock it in gear) and inspect the ring gear, all around the circumference.

I'd be surprised though, (in older cars, yes).

More modern ring gears are made of a harder metal than the starter, just so that it does not wear first.
