Hi I have a Freelander 2.2 td4 GS 2014, I have a wierd problem every year when it gets cold, the car opens ok with remote fob, but when I try to start engine push button start. With foot on brake (auto) there is no ignition or cranking. If I continue to hold/repress start button several times over a period of five minutes it eventually starts. Cranks over fast starts right away runs fine. When warmer weather starts no problem. Have changed fob battery's. New car battery. It is like the start button not working in cold weather. Have removed and tried new button. Same problem. Has anyone came across this problem before.

Do you notice if the heat plugs light is working in dash, it’s unlikely to engage starter until it’s run its heat cycle , the colder it is, the longer the heat cycle

Hi when it has this problem there is no dash lights or instruments working. It's like the switch has not registered being pressed if i keep trying it then seems to recognise button is pressed then it starts no problem

Maybe the key proximity sensor isn't detecting that the key fob is in the vehicle?
Where do you put the key fob when you get in?

You could try holding it close to the steering column to see if that helps.

When you push the key fob in does the steering lock come off and the immobiliser light go off on the dashboard? Until the steering lock comes off nothing else will happen. (The steering lock turns on all the other computers so not even any fault codes to read) Then the cold starting is probably a separate issue most likely glow plugs.

Hi thanks for your reply. This is face lift model don't have to put fob in, new style key fobs. Have noticed that side lights don't come on when unlocking car when this problem is there.

If you press the start button with the fob away from the car, you should still get a warning on the dash. Sounds like yer FL2 isn't waking up.
