Star wheel on drum brakes

Hi everyone I've been out on my 2l diesel freelander and serviced the brakes , now I can't seem to finely adjust the shoes with the star wheel from behind the drum? I can't seem to get a screwdriver to pivot enough to move it forwards or back? I've checked the mechanism and take the drum off but it won't budge?? This is normally so simple on other vehicles? Is it a tricky position of the adjustment hole mine is on top up by the suspension usually on other vehicles its underneath?
