Hi there i have a disco and its standard I need a new tyre on it but while im at i thought i might aswell look into getting a new set of tyres

i want something that will be ok on road but also some use on the lanes? without having to raise the body etc

can anybody recommend some? obviously dont wanna spend loads either

for good all rounders and mainly tarmac use, look at: General grabber AT2's, BFG All Terrains, Cooper ST's

if you want something more aggressive: BFG Mud Terrain, Kumho KL71, Cooper STT

all of them are good tyres, pay yer money and take your pick!

It does depend a lot on which wheels you have.

16" plenty of choice (go for BF I would say).
18" (no BF available, go for GGrabber, except that it has been informed today in another post re 18" tyres that they have been banned in EU due to failing noise test).

Has anyone tried Toyo AT´s? I would expect to be relatively similar to GG AT2 performance wise...and they are available in 18 and smaller wheels.

i already got two BFG All Terrains on, wasnt sure if any cop or not il look into more :)

Do search on here loads of posts re benefit of AT2 BFG etc

only thing I would say and repeating myself from another post

I have not seen any one saying their tyres are crap if they have AT2 or BFG, all good news from either

Can I ask WHY only 2 BFG's what else have you got on?

Not sure what the others are i shall have a look a little later, and its what come on the car. one tyre has a slow leak so tempted just to get a nice new set of tyres that will do for bit of lanes aswell

Thanks for the advice people

I just bought some General Grabber AT2s from tyresdirect.com based in Luton. They were very well priced and easy to deal with. I went for standard 235/70 R16 as I don't have a lift either. They look the Mutts Nuts IMHO.

BFG AT, there are imitators but this pattern has been around for ever, and all us land lovers keep telling the world if it aint broke why fix it?

Got mine local for just under £90 a corner...

To fit 235/85's you'll need to trim about 1/2" off the wheelarch edge of the front bumper caps and a triangle 1" wide x 3" tall (roughly) off the rear edge of the rear arch - also known as a camel-cut

ah that sounds easy enough then, il continue my online search for some then

Am just about to go through a similar exercise.

Currently have 255X65R16 on the truck, will need a new front pair at some point in the next 2 months and rear pair some time next year, probably mid year or later.

Not being a tyre expert but wanting something better than I currently have which are road tyres, truck goes off road most weeks if not days but does 80% of milage on road, been looking at the General Grabber at2 and have not really heard anything bad about them.

Only question for me at the moment is size, do I stay with 255X65R16 or look at something a bit narrower??

I friend of mine that tried both BF´s and GG´s in 16" told me that he prefers BF´s instead of GG AT2 due to sidewall protection mainly.

You could try BF Goodrich AT 245/75 R16 that will fit nicely on factory suspension DII. And is just a little narrower.

I have not tried them, since I have 18". So I am not speaking from direct experience. Only from having seen a friend use both over the years.

Both have very good reports.
