British Springs: Land Rover Parabolic Springs
my springs are from these people, i don't have the parabolic ones i just have the standard ones
Yes, mine were - well one of them had Britpart stencilled on it, the other didn't and seems to be of a slightly different construction. I wasn't impressed that the axle locating dowels are a smaller diameter than they should be either.
not a good idea to fit springs of differing makes, you'll get very odd handling as the rates are sure to be different
usually if the locating pegs arent lined up and "docked" you wont be able to the nuts on the u bolt as there are right the right length so a lean in the wrong direction is normally due to fitting the wrong spring on the wrong corner
other than buying a new set of paras (not from britpart) i'd keep an eye open for a set of good used orginals - these are a millions miles away from any of the pattern replacements in terms of ride and quality
Come on Sean give me some credit! You know how much I love looking up part numbersI have got the springs the right way around. I just ordered the springs and that's how they were. I'll give Craddocks a ring on Monday and see what they suggest.
With reference to docking the axle on the dowel - One of my axle spring brackets was hollowed out so it would have been possible to do up the U-bolts with it missaligned ('cos I nearly did just that). I've found in the past that 2nd hand progressive leaf springs off a LWB 2A station wagon are brilliant on a SWB. I didn't go for parabolics because of the advice I'd read on here and because I'm tight!
