Hey Chaps,

Loaded up the rear of the 90 and noticed it dropped down by at least an inch maybe more. Got me thinking about either HD springs or doing a 2" lift.

How does I check the condition of shocks/springs to see if they could do with replacing?

The 90 is used for mainly road use & green lanes with occasional Pay & Plays. Being a Defender it does already handle like a narrow boat I'm guessing jacking it up by 2" will not improve handling.

Basically if the shocks need replacing I'd do a 2" lift if not then I reckon just HD springs would do. I don't plan on fitting larger tyres anytime soon either.

Other reason for thinking about new suspension is I have added a fair bit of weight.
- Half Cage
- HD Rock Sliders
- Steering Guard
- Tank Guard
- Tubular 'A' Front Bumper + Winch

Planning on Transmission Guard, Roof Rack and NAS Style Rear Bumper in the future.

Here's the lift kit I was going for -

I was advised if carrying a lot to do away with the self level unit (If fitted) and fit HD yellow britpart springs and shocks. Apparently a good item from Britpart

you will probably find new spings will gain you an inch anyway, old spring become saggy, I know a few on here have done a 2" lift from old springs and ended up with nearer 3"

with that extra weight, id be thinking HDs, if the dampers still damp, dont leak and look ok, no need to replace
you can get some extra travel in the future by fitting + shocks and dislocation cones (something I aim on doing when funds allow)

Got Britpart HD springs and shock kit on mine, really pleased with them, yes it is firm, but is good on the road, tows well and not too bouncy off road.
