Just though i'd tell people about the spray I used on my alloys. After some idle youtubing I came across an american spray called Plasti Dip. Essentially, a spray on rubber type paint. Once dry, you can literally peel it off like a big sheet of plastic. You can apply it to most materials/surfaces.

However, after some furious googling, I found that good old halfords do a similar product; Rust-oleum Peel Coat. The benefit of this is i'm impatient and can just go down the road and buy it (plus it's cheaper than the plasti dip).

I gradually built up the layers over a couple of hours at work. Nipping out for a quick spray, let it dry for 20 minutes and then another. I managed to build up 6/7 layers on all 5 wheels (spare included) with just 2 cans. So, that's about an hours work (including a good cleaning of the alloys) and £19.98 in total.

So far it has been quite durable, i've even pressure washed the wheels a couple of times and no sign of it coming off yet. Even if it only lasts a few months, I don't mind giving it another coat at this price. Plus, if I get bored of black alloys, I can go back to original or try a new colour (silver, black, red, lime green, orange or white)

I've used it before to added rubber grips to tools, more grip to RC cars and the like. Want to do my boost alloys gun metal or anthracite but dont trust my self to paint nice things! haha

It really couldn't be easier. All I did was mask off the brake discs with some black bags and sprayed away. The way it sets hides and mistakes really, quite impressive stuff. If somehow you do muck it up - just peel it off and start again ;)

(I do not have shares in rust-oleum)

they look goood mate .Im gunna do mine mat black at some piont and that spray looks an option.
Is it a case of giving the wheels a good cleen ,no primer needed

The sparkly silver paint on my Boost Alloys is starting to give up the ghost and tends to flake off under pressure washing. So I was thinking about a) taking them to one of those professional alloy wheel refurbishers b) buying some more c) painting them. If you can do the whole lot out of a couple of spray cans and get a finish that's pressure washer proof then that's great. I might paint mine black to match the rest of the car.

Did you need to sand the surface at all to give it a key? Wet'n'dry? Pan scrubber?

I just gave them a good clean and dry as I hardly have any damage to the alloy. If you have any blisters or air bubbles, i'd give them a sand beforehand (I had 2 blisters and to be honest, i've just gone straight over the top and so far they seem ok but I expect they may go squiffy). I didn't use a primer with this stuff or key the surface in any way, it just says a light 50% coverage on the first layer. The way this stuff works, not sure if a primer would work? Regardless, I didn't use one. I'll check the can I have in the car in a bit and see what it says.

I've pressure washed them twice, one time they were quite muddy. However, i'm mindful of them so didn't get up point blank. I didn't want to scratch them up and the whole idea of this is it's reversible and I have alloys in good nick, so don't want to damage them

how many cans did you use to do all five wheels?

I just checked my meticulous records, I did 6 layers on the 4 wheels in use and 5 on the spare before it ran out. I used 2 cans in total (I have a 3rd can but wanted to save that for something else). I left it 20 minutes per layer and it was quite a hot day. The wheels in direct sun almost instantly set.

Just another note, I didn't mask off the tyre with bags or card as per the video. I stuffed black bags behind the alloy to cover the brake gubbins and that is it. Any over spray onto the tyre has since flaked/peeled off.

Looks very good, I want to do something to lift my wheels as they are looking a little tires, not sure what colour would suit the truck and wheels, I take it they do the same stuff in silver

They look great. I have the grey freestyle wheels on mine, but they are looking a bit tatty so might give this a go. I actually have a can of plasti-dip in the garage as I was going to do the wheel arches, so might try that on the spare.

I rang my local Halfords before going down, gave them the code and they checked it was on the shelf. If they don't have it, they check other local branches

You can use it on plastic, glass and metal. Possibilities are endless :) Bonnets and wings... I was thinking about doing my rear windows, either side of back door (but decided against it)

Rust-Oleum Peel Coat 400ml Spray is a temporary, peelable coating that works on metal, plastic and glass. It's absolutely perfect for customising wheels, rims, bonnets and more. With a washable, smooth matt finish that's dry in just 24 hours, it's a foolproof choice for quick customisation.

All colours apart from black available to click and collect from my local store so thought I'd pop down. Turns out no colours are on the shelf so I asked and pointed out they were available. They point blank refused to go and look and said if you don't like it try somewhere else.

Good old fashioned customer service :)

I had thought about painting the whole truck in the stuff but have heard a few say its ok for small bits and wheels but not for panels
