right then, i got a roof spot light bar for the disco, i got a set of 2 100w spot lights on the front bumper, wired no problem:D
i put the spot lights on the roof bar over the weekend and all the lights work on full beam without a problem:rolleyes:
however i would like the roof bar spot lights to work independently from the rest of the lights, so i fitted a switch so i can now just run the spotlights on or off on full beam, then ran a permenent switched live wire direct to the spot light but it keeps blowing fuses when i turn it on:eek:
so my question is how can i wire the roof spots to work from a switch as well as work from the full beam
an also is it posible to do so?

i also have plenty of relays but will a relay do the trick or do i need a diode in the circuit to stop the current running back to the main head lights?

thanks in advance

Nick

Nope you just need a relay. and a switch.

Right having just read ya post properly yu need a DPDT (double pole double throw ) switch. so you have on off on. Live comes in to the on terminals one from lights (via relay) and one from battery (via a relay). Wire to the lights goes to the off terminals. You flick the switch depending on which feed you want to power the lights up.

thanks again red
DPDT is that a five pin relay by any chance?
an does anyone know where i can get a wiring diagram from to understand it a bit better

that diagram will do fine - dpdt = double pole/double throw switch - ie off/on/off both power and earth - not strictly necessary, but easy to get. Make sure it is 25 amp rated as a minimum.

no
see post #5

Aye but he wants to be able to operate them when the lights are off as well as having them come on when he puts his highbeam on. so Robins diagram will be of some help but he'll need a 2nd circuit from the the high beam feed as well.

and a dpdt switch to select which live to use. Battery or Highbeam.

Nick DPDT is a switch with off in the centre and on when lever is up or down DPDT ON-OFF-ON MINI TOGGLE | AllElectronics.com

right thanks lads
i thought i'd got it but not sure now:eek:
i'll see if i can get a dpdt from maplins an see if i can blow the car up:rolleyes:

i did try 2 circuits but it just kept feeding back to the main car lights an blowing the fuse, but i'll see how i get on after a trip to maplins;)
might even see if i can scrounge one off the electritions at work:rolleyes::D

cheers red and robin (diagram came in handy as i had to do it twice) i sorted it thanks, i used a on off on switch that i got from the motor factors for less than 2 quid and a couple of relays which i already had,
i took the relay feed to power the relay from the back of the clock from the light that comes on with the ignition as it only pulls an amp or 2,
so thanks for all your help
it's looking good now:D
