Spot light problem.

Hi I have a disco 1994 L reg. I am trying to wire a spotlight on the roof into my reverse lights on the rear. I have found it hard to get into the light cluster to pick up the live on the reverse lights. Does anybody know where else I could pick the wire up in the car and what colour the wire would be??

Usually the gearbox has a switch on it that puts earth to the negative ( this is on old vehicles, so you would need a positive when ignition is in)

Would you want it on all the time when you reverse? May be easier just to wire a switch in for when you need it?

If you are using the vehicle on the road you will need the light to be switched in addition to the reversing light switch, if you want to stay within the law.

You ought to switch them to keep the law happy - defiantly. That's what mine will have when I get round to putting them on. Just another fog light switch round the steering wheel or something.

Pull a hot wire from the reversing lamp itself. Run through a relay and bobs your uncle.

I just went for a spot light wired on a constant feed and have a switch to it, handy for when you just want a work light, or you can put it on an ignition feed incase you forget about it (as I've done before :doh

I think to be in the law, the switch on the dash has to have some sort of indication to alert you its on. A lamp within the switch is good enough.

I've heard similar, Apparently to need an icon on the switch the object has to be a necessity, i.e a label for a horn is needed, whereas a label for an extra reverse lamp isn't because it does an extra reverse lamp is not required for an MOT, better to be safe than sorry though ( *EDIT* all that makes no sense to what you said sorry read what you wrote wrong, but I'll leave it up incase it helps someone else )
