Is it possible to fit the above to a P38?

Been thinking of doing this as i plan to have some fun in my P38 in the future, some touring and travelling etc etc and thinking a 2nd battery would be handy as a reserve.

Is this possible on the 38a and what kind of systems can i fit?

Many Thanks as always

H

It's possible fit split charging on any car. If both batteries are of the same capacity, it can be done very simply, although where you would find space to fit another battery of the same size as the starter battery I do not know.
For odd size batteries, there are smart regulators that require removal of the alternator internal regulator and will safely charge different batteries.
There are many different systems, Google will give you many options.

Thanks Data

Appreciated.

STC8875 AB is the split charge accessory kit for the P38, but bet you can't find anybody that stocks them and you would possibly need a mortgage to buy it if you could

Check out the vm engined Classic's wiring diagram, my G reg had two batteries and a split charging system
My Shogun also had 2 batteries, if I remember rightly split charging was done simply with a relay that connected the ancillaries battery to the alternator when the D+ line changed state. It was great as you could never flatten the starter battery by accidentally leaving lights on. I would like to do that on the P38, but where to put the second battery?

Roof rack?:D Not much room under the bonnet.

That looks interesting G ;)

Took me a while to fit as I’d never done one before but very happy with it

Odd that there is so much room in the V8's engine bay, yet so few flat surfaces you can actually mount stuff to.

Maybe if i'm clever enough another battery could go in place of the airbox and the air is handled with a shorty cone filter and some solid plastic hosing to attach the air flow sensor to.

decisions decisions!!

Great fit and finish!!

Handy Diagram too!

Very nice.

Many thks, know it took me ages to get it all done, inc looking for conduit Y pieces etc ,

Glad the diagram may be useful to u

Tidy engine bay you’ve got there, indeed does look full, lol

It will be useful G, will take me forever to do though!!

I'm also planning on fitting a coolbox in the rear, that'll be powered by the stock power outlet in the boot!! ;)

So many plans!!

Hopefully i actually get to drive and do the travelling i want to do in this car :D:)

Same with me in the amount of time it took, little things like running cables run through the bulkhead , fused correctly , etc

Found this other link, hope it may be useful

Indeed ref to plans , also got my list for little projects which I hope I can start in the spring
