split charger kit?

Hi everyone,
Id like to fit a split charging system into my 1989 110CSW.

Iv just had to fit a new 100amh bosch battery due to cold and an old one being in her.
The old battery charges in doors but I don't think it would work well again. I thought id use as a second auxilary battery to run my lights, radio etc.

Iv got to find space for it but more important iv got to find, make and fit a split charging system.

No real idea what I'm doing so please help!

Has any one got a kit to fit?
Can you supply a parts list of what I need?

as long as its basic and not winch or anything a caravan type relay will cover it easily

In my opinion, fit a durite relay circa 120amp which are no expensive, some heavy cable between the two +VE terminals connected to the relay, some heavy cable to join the battery -ve together, then connect one side of the coil in the relay to earth and the other to the exciter/charging light terminal on the back of your alternator, job done

Just to add my 2p worth.... Look for 200amp relays, before you buy as you may find that there is virtually no difference in price and the extra headroom means that they will be even more likely to last. If you look in my electrical tutorial I give a diagram for how to connect it all up.

Id get one of those dual volt meters in a 52mm surround, a durite or albright contractor and make my own.

Once you get something like the T-max you see how very easy it is to do.

you can also fit a voltage sensing relay if it'll only need to pull 30amps. £12 + postage

I think this type is better as it only supplies charge to the second battery once the first is up to a decent voltage.
If you just use a relay from the alt. Light then if you are having starting problems you may still end up with 2 flat batteries as the lower battery will take charge from the higher battery.
I would also advise putting an isolated hard link from battery 1 to battery 2 so you can jump
Start your self.

If you just have a switch from the ignition live then leave it switched on normally you don't have any issues then IF there is a problem you just flick the switch off
