Hi all im now thinking that im going to run two batteries on my disco 2 ive been looking at this ... http://www.x-eng.co.uk/Instructions/X-Charge.pdf the way thats wired is thats correct i would have thought that that would have caused the system to be 24v to 12 volt batteries connected together??? is it that simple??? Then just hook my winch up to the aux battery??? job done? Thanks Dan.

Put simply, yes it is that simple. and it works. I have one fitted to my 90.

Turned my engel fridge on when we left Bristol on 6th October 08, drove around Morocco covering 4350 miles. 4 weeks later, 90 back on the drive. switched the fridge off. that includes 2 x 36hour portsmouth/Bilbao crossings.

The relay type systems however are not as good as the switching solonoids found in kits like the national luna. If you have the money and want an intelligent kit go for that one. If you want a simple one that can be repaired in the bush, get the X eng. some bits of wire and a 200amp relay, job done.

Ere Griffy, a quick glance at your avatar and it looks like your ninety has gone up in smoke:flame2: :flame2: :flame2: :flame: :flame:

And, no it wouldn't be 24 volt, it simply means there's more ability to deliver high current at 12v. These batteries are in parallel (albeit with a relay disconnecting one battery when the alternator isn't charging). If you had them in series it'd reach 24v, but the alternator isn't set-up to charge batteries in series.

Think of batteries, like a set of steps in series, there's a bigger difference between the bottom of the bottom step and the top of the top step than any individual step. If you put them in parallel (as this is), it's like putting the steps side by side, you can handle a wider load, but the difference between the top and bottom is only one step's worth.
