Hi All

Are these bearings the same thing??!!

My Clutch (manual TD5) makes a whining noise (only when cold) that i can stop by adjusting the pressure on the clutch pedal. it only makes the noise when going into or out of gear, especially when holding the car on a hill by feathering the clutch/accelerator and not when driving.

I have been told it is the Spigot bearing. Is that a/the clutch release bearing?? I have also been told it is made of brass!! and that's why it wears quickly?! true?

Is it an imperative job to get done or can i leave it awhile as i imagine it will be expensive and probably worth doing with another job??

Any comments welcomed, posted a thread on here a while ago about fuel problems and the resulting suggestions stopped me getting fleeced at a garage, so cheers!!

if the noise goes when yu apply pressure to the clutch pedal it is likely o be the clutch release bearing, which is a ball/roller bearing on the end of your clutch release arm.
the spigot bearing is a sintered bronze (usually) bearing and is fitted intp the centre of the flywheel.
the carry on for years like that, dont bother to change it unless it either disintegrates/you need a new clutch.

Many thanks for the advice, i can make the noise stop by either putting the disco 'fully' in gear or by taking it completely out of gear. If i try and do it half way, it whines.

At least i now know it's not going to suddenly fail!!
