spider or eds

How can i tell my auto 300tdi has a spider or edc without ripping the dash out. It nearly conked out a couple of times today and sometimes it starts after a few turns in the morning, sometimes it starts first time.

Im also getting a ticking noise which i am trying to get to the bottom of, would the lift pump tick if it was on its way out?

look at the injector pump if its got 3 wires feeding from it youve got dds

The immobiliser unit will tick when it's on it's way out or is faulty. As will several relays that are under the passenger side footwell panel

Cheers Redhand, ill check tomorrow.

The ticking is definately coming from around the engine some where, had tappets done. It ticks louder the more i rev out, but no loss of power or anything.

To confirm whether your engine is EDC - first it needs to be an autobox; second, if EDC it will have a MAF between the airfilter box and the turbo.

The ticking noise could be:

Lift pump or Vacuum pump (driver side of engine)
Exhaust gasket (passenger side of engine)
