Well it was all going so well for me and my 2001 DHSE. But I had to mess with it, and it's bitten me. I had a little play trying to get my Sony headunit to work with it using autoleads connections into the harness as I thought with pre-amp outputs on my head unit it might just work. But I just got a high pitched interference sound when I turned it on.

Anyway that lot aside, I tested for 12v using a multimeter in the radio iso connector. It red zero, and the lead to the multimeter got hot. I unplugged it fast. This was between red wire and ground, and also yellow wire (permanent 12v) and ground.

So I took the whole lot out and put the original back in. But now when I turn on the ignition the warning lights don't illuminate for the bulb test, they just flicker a bit. The temperature display also flickers. It will start and run but the speedo and rev counter now stay at zero.

What have I done, have I killed it, help me please ?

data, could he have done more than that as the electrics are pos earth aren't they.or have i got it wrong??.not the battery i mean, just via the becm etc.

It's all negative earth, it's just that it's the negative that is switched rather than the positive in some cases.
Yes he could have cooked something if his test meter was set to amps instead of volts.:eek::eek: Didn't want to alarm the poor s*d:doh:

Thanks for the input all.

Well.... thankk fook for that, I checked the fuses and fuse number 1 (10amp) had blown (well called, Datatek). Have replaced it and vcerything is now working again - yey !

How weird though, I had no speedo, no rpm, no message display (flickering on and off), every time I started the engine the trip zero'd, the mileage didn't increase whilct driving, the OE radio wouldn't turn on, the Hevac display flickered off and on, the fuel guage joggled between half anbd zero, and the temperature gauge didn't work. And I replace fuse number 1 and it's all working all back to normal !! I would have thought that with the fuse blown it wouldn't work at all. No half way house flickering on and off, just off. Man the electrics on these things are way more complicated than i'm used to !

For info, multimeter was set to DC volts. Really don't know why this happened other than this that I found in RAVE just now...

"CAUTION: A number of circuits include solid - state devices. Voltages in these circuits should be tested only with a 10 - megohm or higher impedance digital multimeter. Damage to the device may result"

Didn't think the radio circuit would fall into the solid state category, but perhaps it does and my cheapo multimeter isn't quite the spec they are asking for
