I've just spent the last few days after work building the loom for my TD5 dash on a 300TDi install. So today was installation day. I started with the most fiddly bit and pulled through a ground, ignition and data wire for the transducer. I removed the old dash and speedo cable etc then installed the transducer, connected the cable and connected up the permanent live, side light, ignition live, ground, water temp, fuel level and transducer wires as a start.
All the gauges work but the speedo does not move. I swapped it for another one as I had two and that didn't work either. I still had the central plate removed so unconnected the transducer.
If I spin the square shaft I can do 70mph whilst stationary so the wiring is working! I know that the drive to the speedo sender bit of the transfer box should work because the mechanical speedo worked. The square shaft is the same size as the speedo cable so it should work. I've tried removing it and re-installing it 3 times but nothing.
Should there be something in between the transducer and the transfer box? It does not seem totally solid in it's location, is this normal? How do you make sure it is located correctly?
