speedo cable problem

what am i doing wrong ? fitted cable in underneath then behind the dash, didnt work, so i disconected from behind dash took hold of wire while driving and i could stop it spinning does this mean its not seated in the transfer box ? didnt think i could stop cable spinning by hand.

Could be a worn speedometer drive gear in the transfer box. Easy to pull out and check the condition.

Not always true, although normally it should be relatively simple. The last one I done was ludicrous, it was in solid and refused to move!! Be proactive and lather it in penetrating oil and leave it for a while.

Yeah as said check the drive gear, mine was fine but the squre metal shaft the cable fits into in the end of it had broken off on two sides and the collar that holds it into the transfer box was seized in solid.
