Hi everyone

I am new to this site to please excuse me if I've put this in the wrong section or not read other threads properly.

I have purchased a 2005 Freelander TD4 auto. Whilst driving it home one of the warning lights came on (the yellow one with an exclamation mark in it). When this happened the car's speed slowed down. When the light went out the speed went back to normal. I took it to the local garage to have it read for a code and it came up as Speed Sensor. Can anyone tell me where these are located or how i'd find out which one because evidently I'm told there are three.

Thanks guys and I hope someone can help

By speed sensor they mean ABS wheel speed sensor i guess?

There should be 4 not 3, one on each hub.

The ABS control module uses the n/s/f one for displayed IPK speed. If the IPK stopped displaying speed, it would be that one.

The only way to know which sensor it is, would be through the fault code generated. We would need the P-code (fault code should read Pxxxx-xx), to know which wheel it was from. These will be stored in ABS ecu.

Hope that helps.

There's one in each hub, first thing is to check they are all seated correctly! As said the fault code would tell you which one to look at!

ebay is your friend, oh and if it's a 2005, then it's not a freelander 2 (F2) but a facelifted freelander 1 (F1)

not being pedantic, but would hate you to order the wrong part

Hi everyone

Sorry for the delay in replying. The car sort of behaved itself over the christmas period. Light only came on now and then and some times not at all so I didn't do anything. I did take it to have the code read though and it came up P0500 which just said Speed Sensor Malfunction. Didn't say anything else re which wheel or anything!! Would this be something different then or did I use a mechanic who didn't have a great code reader?
Today I have had to go out and the drive involved alot of hills. The light has been coming on constantly and slowing the vehicle down to such an extent I didn't think i'd get up the hill :jaw:. I'm so short on cash at the minute but need my car. Any ideas anyone?

thanks heaps

Gang, a duff ABS/speed sensor should not activate reduced power mode should it?

It seems to be if I put my foot down the light can come on, then the car slows down. As soon as the light goes out it quickens up again! Some trips it doesn't come on at all. Its very very confusing! :(

Ok guys

Havn't been on for a while but now my freelander has died :(
I went to a doctors appt and the car started fine no problems. When I came out of the doctors it wouldn't start. It was trying but just wouldnt fire up. I ended up getting it trailered home. Tried throughout the day but just wouldn't start. Dad thought maybe fuel pump. Anyway next day it started but when you try to rev it it was missing between 1900 and 3000 revs! I can hear fuel pump buzzing now (which I couldn't when it broke down outside the docs). It starts now but runs really roughly when you put it under load. I changed oil and put some injector cleaner through it and took it out for a drive. Its fine right up until you put your foot down and the revs go over 1900 then it runs lumpy and rough. Any ideas?

thanks guys
