There is an article about how allisport removed the limiter somewhere, i read it and they had to divide the speed counters output by 2, so it could go beyond. And according to my speedo i have achieved over 70 once, but the sat nav read 81 :-S not doing it again either.

that's what they did in the initial rush to see who could defeat the limiter first race - it's a crude way of doing it and meant the speedometer was just there fer decoration

i beleive their new method has a touch more finese about it

I see - it is an old magazine. Funny electronics stuff... (He said, studying a degree in electronics engineering...) How much electronics are there in a 300Tdi? Are they actually ECU controlled, or are they just a bit more monitored?

ok thanks. that makes sense. emission regs. can a limiter just affect top end and emissions without altering characteristics of the rest of the engine/torque curve?

YES.

The speed limiter has NO effect on anything EXCEPT when you reach the pre-set maximum ROAD speed, when it shuts the engine down to prevent you from going any faster.

:) Our new speed delimiter does not affect the speedo or have any detrimental effect on the car other than allowing you to go faster than 82! On the french and german autoroutes, the car becomes easier to drive as you have that little extra speed for over taking.

Is it just the newer ones, I've spent hours searching for my limiter on my 93 200tdi , I know its there somewhere! :D

My brand new 110 is scary enough at 70 (actually its quite nice, but you know what I mean) wouldn't really want to go any quicker, and don't see any need to. Plan your journeys properly and you won't need to either.
All of us should know just how wobbly a Defender feels when you have to suddenly get out of the path of the retard who just cut you up, and thats when within the legal limit, god knows what it would be like at higher speeds and I am not inclined to find out.
