Surely if the shaft is loose the whole shaft can float so all gears will be effected?
Ie in 2nd gear when you engage gear the synchro will tend to force the shaft forward and your selector fork stops at its normal position won't be much but if gear teeth are worn then tendency to pop out is likely to be increased.

Old thread I know. PJ 768 I have made a start on ST600300 main shaft tool. Good job I bought a nut to check them with. The drawing has "issues" with sizes. It looks like the guy added to the width of the splines for clearance instead of taking metal off. I will get them finished over the next week or two.

I bought a large deep socket, covered the nut in marker pen and set the socket against it.
Hey presto, socket marked with ink for grinding. The whole thing took an hour.

At long last I have finished making some main shaft nut tools. I am in South Staffs to collect or post at about £6 if anyone wants to use one. I would like a deposit so that they are returned ready for the next person. PM if interested. I have sent one to Wakefield for people to pick up from there if more suitable.
