Hello folks, Freelander 1.8 on checking one of the spark plugs today it looks like some loony has overtightened one of the plugs and damaged the thread in the head, The effect is I am only able to tighten to 15 nm ( book says 20 nm) and then if tightning further the plug will go loose again.

I have delt with a similar problem in the past and resolved it by a helicoil insert, but this was on a normal bolt insert, unsure about a helicoil in such a key position.

Any input would be helpful,

Regards Dutch RR

Thanks mondo, do you advise a cocktail umbrella inserted in the bore, to catch the bits, or will I have to take the head off!!!

if you can put yer insert in upside down then you only need worry about not letting the tang fall in. any ally bits from re taping will just get blown out the exhaust
