Well my 1996 p38 on lpg is going to get some new plugs this week.
But having read through the search section of a few people who have managed to break a spark plug on removal,im interested in what you guys think is the best way to go about getting them out !
I'm thinking of having the engine up to running temperature first (more burn scars ! ) as most things possibly seized like a bit of heat :D
Yes i have got a decent spark plug socket and breaker bar ready.
Just wish i had a crystal ball,as i have no idea when the plugs were out last
Is seized plugs a common problem with v8's,or am i just becoming paranoid about it ? :D
Cheers Andy..

When you get your old plugs out hopefully without many problems. Put a little copaslip grease on the threads of the new plugs.

spray some plus gas around the plugs go and have a cup of tea then hopefully they should all come out no problem... keep soccket straight when turning,, rock the plug back and forwards a little before trying to fully undo

good luck

I find alot of plug sockets are very tight between the pluh recess and the head on the rover v8.

Not sure if this applies to the Gay38 too but be carefull it doesnt jam up in the gap and put too much side stress on the plug, might be why some people sanp them.

Could anyone advise on the torque setting please, haynes manual is still on order.
Fitting NGKBRP6ES plugs cos that's what I could get. If there's a better option then I can change them later.

No need for torque setting finger tight then nip up. But for the purists around 15 to 18lb feet is usual for spark plugs.

Land rover say 20nm or 15lb feet but what do they know?

Is changing them a problem on the 3.9 V8's in the Classic? As that's another job on my list!!

Cheers!
