Evening all. I would like to fit a swing away spare wheel carrier to my 90 pick up is this do able or is the components you get not compatable for the job. Cheers

Just about any 4x4 parts suppliers. there's 2 main types the one I posted (from Rimmer Bros) and the type that attach to the rear door. and open & close with the door. Obviously the latter type are no use on a Pickup bodied landy.

Seen a few drop down tailgates converted to side hinged and a mantec swing away bolted on
Very nice job and as pikeys said the pivlok types are a bit of a faff in use, mine was on a series 3 with split tailgates

My 90 has that type of swing away, no great hassle to use, looks better with the wheel on the back, and it's out of the way rather than taking up space inside. I've also made a mountain bike rack that fits on it, which allows the bike to swing away to allow opening of the back door with the bike fitted. Great mod in my opinion.

Got my second hand britpart one approx a year ago its been fine and seems well made, nice and chunky, also has grease nipples on the hinges.

Ran a Pivlock for years and really liked it, as said it is no good if you carry people in the back (they can't get out without the carrier being opened first) but if you don't do this then it isn't an issue.
Make sure it is set up correctly and doesn't rattle, as soon as it goes out of adjustment the slot can wear rapidly resulting in even more wear. As long as the buffer is pressed up against the tailgate then all will be fine.

For the past 15-years I have been running a side-hinged tailgate with swingaway carrier, very nice set-up.
