SPARE WHEEL CARRIER - CHANGE TO ALLOYS

Does anybody have experience of changing from a steel spare wheel to an alloy on a standard TD5 door mounted rear wheel carrier. I just bought some boost alloys and replacing the original steel spare wheel with one of these I note that it goes too far back and hits on the rear wiper arm. It will need to be spaced further off but then I wonder if there is sufficient thread left to put nuts on to retain wheel.
Anybody got experiences of this and does it require changing from the original nuts on the carrier to alloy nuts?

It will require you to change the nuts to allow nuts to prevent damage to the wheel. To space it away from the rear door there should be threaded disc that go on first and then wheel, then the nut. Similar to these: link (not a recommendation just the first result of google!)
 
Yes those are what you need, our TD5 had been fitted with alloys and came with a rusty old steel wheel on the back door.
As already mentioned
You need three alloy wheel specific nuts and these three spacers, which screw on to the threads before you fit the wheel to the door.
