i didn't get a spare key, or a security card, with my disco, but you can obviously get uncut and unprogrammed blanks - how easy is it to then "programme" these things ?

as i say, no security card, but i've got the barcoded "tags" stuck in the back of the service manual - would they be of any relevance ?

oh - and is it just a case of ringing up a main dealer to get the EKU code, just in case ?

i've got the contact details for the original selling dealership, plus the one that has done the subsequent servicing

apologies to all the regs on here for this torrent of daft questions

No question is a daft question if the person asking needs to know.

I have a Disco 2 TD5. How can I find out the radio code for it ?
Does anyone know?

so if i've got these:

with the key itself being unprogrammed, and uncut, and the barcode tags being the original ones from the service manual, can I sort it out myself (the programming, not the cutting) rather than pay those herberts a hundred quid to do it for me, so I end up with a duplicate key ?

I could program mine but that's a 1994 200tdi and all the instructions came with the key (and are on the website). You basically programmed the car to accept the new key by messing around with the bonnet switch & ignition.

It looks like for the disco II it's a more secure system but you need some computer stuff - I'm guessing the info on the barcode has to be programmed into the new key but without the equipment I'd say it was doubtful you could do it yourself. :-(

The two barcodes need to be inputed to the security ECU via Testbook and the metal bit copied to the original or to the Vin of the car.I can do the electronic bit,but you need a locksmith or main dealer to do the metal bit.;)

thanks people - looks like the cheapest option might be to get a piercing done somewhere, put a keyring in and stick the fob on there to make sure i don't lose it in the first place....

you say you have the original codes from the back of your service book?

these are for your original key and will not work with another blank key,
each key has a different code
