Pretty much as per you pic. As I remember it was an 'L' reg with ladder racks and the same sort of tyres. It was really slow with a top speed of around 48mph, however it was good off road and in the snow. I thought it was ok at the time, but only had my Series 1 to compare it with. Just checked with the other half and she says we had it for 3 winters, she would remember it as my son was conceived in this vehicle

so it was a randy landy then.:D

SEB did have some capstan winches but the hydraulic drum was far more common, or seems to be anyway seeing as there is next to no archive material available.

Are you certain it was diesel, as it would almost certainly have been a six cylinder petrol if it had 900x16 tyres and was used by SEB.

I didn't get it direct from SEB, my brother had bought it (via auction) from SEB. He stripped it down to a rolling chassis for rebuild and changed the 6 litre petrol to the standard non turbo diesel. He lost interest so I took the project on, I worked night and day for a week in freezing temperatures and put it back together including the original ladder racks. The winch and petrol engine went to the scrap man. The following spring I gave it a paint job of LR blue and a cream top. It did look the business but not nice to drive, though I got used to it. I eventually sold it for £1,000 plus an MG midget which I sold the next day for £400, I never actually wanted the MG Midget but the bloke was so keen to have the landy he thought the MG might persuade me to sell it. That was a lot of money all those years ago.

Hi Dan, It had been re plated when i bought it so don't know what it was.
Sorry, would have been great if it was one you had driven!

Thanks for the replies guys, nice info to know.

I only drove a couple of older TD5s, most of my time was in 04, 05 or 55 plate ones, and a 56 plate 130. I drove one 02 reg I think it was, that was utter rubbish and used to stall all the time. Thankfully it wasn't allocated to me so I only had to drive it a couple of times.
