sos A bar spot lamps wiring kit from bolt on bits wont work

hi guys,
ive bought an A bar twin spot lamp wiring kit from bolt on bits on ebay,(new may i add), i have followed seemingly easy instructions but the buggers wont light up,normal main beam still works, i am getting some sort of power to the bulbs (tested using tester)but they wont light, checked bulbs and their fine, can any one who understands coloured spagetti help me please, about 6hrs wasted, and i,m now on the buds:scratching_chin:

i've fitted the same kit today without any probs. how have you earthed your spots ? cause on mine the spots are earth through my a bar the chassis via the bumper obviously but other than that its a plug and play kit mate.

Get a multimeter. Maplin or similar will do one for a few quid, you dont need any thing fancy like a fluke(but they are good

) It will come in handy more than this once.

Check the exact voltage through the harness. If its not 12v then you need to work out why?

could you have wired them in series and not parallel? Or parallel and then series? If 12v is present, as already suggested by short round, check the earth. Run a wire direct to alternator earth or known good chassis earth.

then it really is plug and play. 1 pos wire to battery, remove nearside headlight, plug 1 socket into wiring loom and the other to the headlight bulb and the its a case of 2 wires each for the spots pos and neg. and as said in previous post earth is made through the A bar.

and i know it sounds alot of pennys for what it is but electrickery just confuses the f*ck outta me so was easier this way.

hi guys
thanks for your input,
i have 2 wires in each bowl white and black ,
both wires have juice in them ,
i spoke to a mechanic friend and he reckons only 1 wire should have juice,
maybe bolt on bits loom could be wired wrong,maybe at the relay,
i will need to get a proper tester,
i ,m going to get back in about it tonight,

HI AGAIN GUYS,
thanks again for the response this web site is tops,
short round i do have the same kit as yours,
i fitted the old headlight loom i had in garage,
and hey presto it seems to be working, (cant work that one out though)
the other thing is the wee rubber fuse box on the new kit is sparking and heating up,only when main beam/spots are on, but when i kind of move it around it stops,
for safety for now i will remove the fuse when i,m not using it,
could i be drawing too much juice through the wire or is the kit faulty?

roof bar spots tomorrow night , fingers crossed that goes smooth,

sorry guys
me again again,
just noticed my kitt isnt the same as shortrounds,
the main wire on mine ( battery to relay) is made up of 2 wires
a black and a red both merging into one spade at the fuse end and
at the other end both go into relay,
lost again,

That sounds suspect, if both pos+ and earth terminate at the same terminal on the relay.

Is that what your saying?

You must have a spare spade connector on the relay then when its all plugged in?

I had my A bar and twin spots from Bolt on Bits a few months back and had the wiring kit from them. I could not get it working at all. Eventually I called them up and they were super helpful in talking me through to make sure that the wiring they had sent me was all pluged together correctly. It turned out that the fuse holder which was a few inches into the main red wire from the battery was faulty so I cut it off and connected the wire to the battery and it all worked fine. The next day I recieved two spare fuse holders from bolt on bits in the post - they were really helpful and it turned out that the fuse holder was dodgy.

Its possible, just possible that bolt on bits had a ship load of broken fuse holders and that this is our problem? You could try removing the fuse holder and connecting it straight to the battery.
