Hi chaps,

A bit off the LR topic but I thought someone on here would be able to advise.

Been checking a 95 Ford Fiesta 1.3 for a friend. Test drove it and all was well until I got back to base. After switching off, I opened the bonnet to check all was well and discovered that the coolant was boiling in the head and pushing coolant back into the expansion tank, through the breather hose from the top of the thermostat housing that connects to the expansion tank. Thinking "Thermostat" I then checked the rad was hot and discovered it most certainly was.

This doesn't seem right to me but I've not worked on these engines before. The coolant temperature gauge was showing a reasonable level and was stable. Obviously the next steps would be to test the thermostat and back flush the rad. Before I do, whats the thoughts about this problem, if it is a problem?

Many thanks,

Dave

I know what you mean RH and the thought crossed my mind too. The coolant level and oil levels are both correct and the oil is clean and clear of cream. Engine runs really well and its very lively. Also there was no exhaust smoke. Suppose this is something to put on the list. Thanks for your thoughts RH.

BTW, hope all is well.

If the head gasket has gone over a waterway Oil Won't emulsify. But pressure leak will force water into headertank. Sniff test can often be the only way to be sure.

I'm fine at the mo how's ya self? I heard yu joined Wessex4x4 Response? what they like was thinking of sticking me head in there meself.

Not bad thanks Mate.

On the car front, its now gone off to friends house in Cheltenham so won't see it in the short term. Oh well, if its suffering HGF I suspect I will hear about it soon.....

On the Wessex front, yes you heard right. Good news is their aims make so much sense and I would really like to be able to assist them. Bad news is I've started the enrolment process which involves an interview. Trouble is I've been waiting three weeks now and have heard nothing from the guy who is to do the interview. I've enquired about the delay but have heard nothing. Begining to wonder if they really want me. No Gaylander gags please, they've got slitties and 4x4 model normal cars, such as Scoobies, in the team. Some of the stories of what they've been up to in the past are fasinating. Are you thinking of joining Wessex or one of the other teams. I'm not sure where you're based, hence the question.

Cheers,

Dave

Am in yeovil so it'll be wessex. Was in HY4x4 but it's a bit far to travel for a shout. Only reservations I have are that I've read some of their posts on the national forum and a few of em seem to think their above everyone else. and a bit up their own arses. But that could be just me been predjudiced by the fact their suffeners :p Though the interview appointment scenario dunt sit well. When I joined HY4x4 They just said come along to the monthly social meet and say hello. and that was it. I was a member before we left the pub.

Sounds like you've had some experience of Response teams. Can't comment about the team attitudes as I don't know any of them yet and I've not really entered into the National forum than deeply. I am on there now. I think you can transfer teams as they are linked through the national organisation. The interview is to prepare documents for a CRB check. I spose it makes sense to do that in this day and age. Trouble is the CRB check can take up to 6 weeks. If they want me to be available when the weather really gets bad then they'll have to get a rattle on. Its annoying really as I've bought a complete CB system especially for the job and got it installed ready, which they know about. So they can see I'm keen enough. Don't know what to make of it.

Yeah I still can't see why Wessex insist on a CRB check, because at no point in response work should yu be alone with vunerable adults or children In the event of an evacuation the council should provide chaperones or trained staff to accompany them. & the response team should have made this clear to the council when they signed the agreement. But for some reason Wessex have decided that all their members have to undergo a CRB check. Even though Government policy is that only those people who will be working or left alone with vunerable people should have to have a CRB check.

I did not realise that this was a Wessex special requirement. Oh dear, begining to sound like every sliver lining has a cloud. :(

Not sure if it's just Wessex but it's a pointless requirement. That aside I'm sure that the majority of peeps in the group are fine. Ignore me I'm just a cynical old bastid.

Nah, its not your spin on things that is depressing, its that where ever you go these days there seems to be some sort of agenda, where politics seems to play a part, normally a big one. I was hoping, perhaps nievely, that this would be a bit different. Stupid of me really I spose.

Anyone else on here in a 4x4 response group?
