After talking to an auto electrician today, I thought I should warn people that my 1998 Disco 300tdi Auto was tampered with while parked up in Poole town centre, with the intention that I would leave it there and then the thrives would return late at night and have her away!
I parked her up in Disabled parking bays behind the bus Station in Poole at 6.30pm, when I returned to it at 9pm it wouldn't start. (It's a landy, my first thought was that I had looked at her wrong, not theft)
She was completely dead, and red immobiliser light wasn't on, tried locking and unlocking, jiggling the gear selector (it's an auto) but nothing. So I called breakdown. Man arrived who was not very familiar with Disco's but decided that I needed a starter motor.... anyway, after faffing about looking on his pda, he found 2 wires not connected to anything near to the starter motor. 1st wire he attached blew the 60amp slowblow ignition fuse, so he decided it probably wasn't that one connected the other one, swapped the fuses around as he didn't have a spare, and got it started, followed me home and parked her up on the driveway.
Husband was most concerned about the fuse, and ended up getting a couple from eBay.
The red immobiliser light has been out since then, but she won't start up now if you have only just parked up. Husband discovered that the ignition relay is getting really hot so has to get the electrics guy to come and have a look at her.
I naively didn't think that disco's were theft targets, just the proper Series and Defender type Land Rovers.
