Apologies if these are answered elsewhere, but I thought it would easier to pool my questions in one easy-to-reach place.

Have just bought a 2.0 TD4, Y-reg, 70-odd thousand miles on the clock.

It's now the end of the first week, and it has suddenly become very thirsty on petrol. Is this a symptom of something or are they not as economical as I had been led to believe?

The CD player is not being recognised as existing by the head unit, and I can't get the cartridge out. Is this easy to remedy, and if not how easy is it to find something else that is compatible with the clock display?

Is the screenwasher really that weedy or has my pump gone?

Am I right in assuming that the wheel wobble at 80 is down to bad balancing, or do they just not like doing 85/90 on motorways? (Hmmm, cross ref this info with the fuel economy question while we're at it)

Think that's all.

Other than to say why didn't I get one of these sooner?

Sorry, old habits die hard. I'm putting diesel in the diesel. It just disappears quicker than petrol from my old Rav, hence the confusion

check the crank case breather filter. this is a must, and may not be related to you fuel consumption problem.

then check and clean the egr valve, or better still, buy and fit a bypass, see what happens.

try getting the wheels balanced, simplest cheapest 1st, then onto props and driveshaft issues if necessary

OK, should have mentioned that starting the engine is the full extent of my mechanical capabilities

Cheers, though - will pass this on to my garage. It's getting checked over next week

Get them to change the breather. Run injector cleaner through, check out MAF operation as they go faulty very easily & an unscrupulous seller will just disconnect it. this means the car will revert to ecu default values which means it drives quite well but fuel economy will not be good. What is your fuel consumption anyway & is it manual or auto. Don't forget that diesels especially give a bit poorer economy in the depths of winter.

It's an auto. Not sure what the actual figures are, but over a third of a tank on a trip to Stockport (90min round trip, averaging 70) seemed more than I was expecting.

And it was sunny yesterday, so winter is now over...
