where did you get that anderson connector from, i take it thats for jump starting vehicles

I would see if it simply needs tightened a little, they don't actually know if it has worn or not. Get a hub nut box spanner (£7 from paddocks). You can do this and leave the caliper on, you do however need to take the caliper off if you want to check the inner bearing - I would probably pull out the outer bearing and see what state the rollers and bearing face are in, if they look OK I would just go for tightening it all up. Make sure everything is clean, any grit getting in here will grind them up.

Take the drive flange off, then you can undo the lock washer, undo the big nut and remove the lock washer. Take this nut off too if you want to check the bearing. Once it's all back together or if your going to skip the check, do the inner nut up quite tight (you can still a tommy bar through the box spanner and horse it up) and spin the hub, undo the nut now until it's just making contact with the hub, now tighten it by hand so that it's tight, but the hub can still spin freely with no feeling of resistance, there should be NO rock in the hub (i.e. the bearings should be pulled up tightly but not excessivly).

Give the hub a spin and listen to it, it should sound even all the way round, if after doing this it still has a rock or makes a noise the bearings may well be worn.

VWP - battery connectors

Can also be good for jump starting yourself. If you make up a set of jump leads with clips on one end and the plug for this on the other you can use it for whatever.

Also good for HD 12V applications, remote lighting rigs etc...

I'm about to get a two owner R-reg, with 70,000 miles on it, for £1800. I am planning on just using it as a shooting bus, so any tips and info you might have would be gratefully received.

Mine isnt actually a hole just a bit crusty.

As requested a few pics...

The arch was from Paddocks, and my best mate welded it in for a few beers.
The Anderson connector and lead I 'cough cough aquired from work cough cough' (HGV 1 driver) but they are avilable off eBay too. Now have the jump leads to go with it.
I steamed it all at work too, and the engine bay, came up really well.

The MOT man was like, 'an R reg old Landy, bet thats rotten as a pear', he was as pleasently suprised as me!

Unless you are planning to be up to your wipers in muddy water I can't see the point of mutilating a clean car to fit a snorkel. I think they look rancid. Fair enough if you need one, but one of the most pointless modifications if you don't. Just my opinion anyway. The Spotlights look good though going to get a pair for my one, got more pressing issues at the moment though.

I think your right, since I opened the post I have changed my mind on the snorkel, and will leave it pretty much as it is

Good idea. I have a muddy disco that i take green laning and will be taking to the pits next week and dont have one. My old v8 went through plenty of water without one. Just have to stay clear of the very deep water.

Looks very similar to mine ! mines a p reg 122k on the clock and yes its even got the same hole in wheel arch but im not sure where to take it up here in manchester ,carnt weld myself and most garages i know dont seem good enough at it either ,so will keep searching for somewhere suitable for that one .Also how did you get your rear bumper looking so good ?

Back to Black spray, just sprayed on generously and left to soak in. Still like it a month later!

problem is, that if you dont fit a snorkel and your following someone with one, they'll just drop down through the water without thinking about it or you - round here we regularly get roads flooded with a couple of feet plus of water, not little back lanes but main roads.

plus with a snorkel you get a "ram air" type effect, whereby the engine is getting a supply of air forced into the air cleaner, rather than sucking it in through the inlet in the inner wing, this results on a (very) slight power increase, but also an improvement in mpg.

i found this after fitting mine, i gained 1-2 mpg on everyday driving, and about 4-5 mpg on a steady run.

Mine breathes alot easier with a snorkel. But i have the added bonus that my truck looks like crap anyway! :lol:

Yeah Chris its one mean looking disco, just need to bring mine up to your standard.......

2" lift on the way I think, and some mud tyres. I have a snorkel on and I just like the idea that if I need it, its there.
