Hi all

I am seeking a SUV, or 4*4 or..well, some call it one thing. But, I seek a car with a higher seating, comfort on long trips and safe if I have a crash.

I am now driving around in na bmw z4 coupe, it is a great car....but not high seating or high on long trips comfort...But, it was also not made for that:)

I am looking at BMW X3/X5, Porsche Cayenne, MB ML/GLK and Land Rover/Range Rovers.

I find the looks on the Land Rover/Range Rover to be just great.
But, how is the comfort after a long drive? Say 8hrs drive? How is the quality today? I was told it is just as bad as it was....is that tru?
Will a Land Rover or Range Rover be expensive to run and service, when matching it with a BMW, MB or a Cayenne?

I am not seeking the superb offroading that a Land Rover got, I am going to use the car on road.

All help is good

Thanks for looking

Get yoself a Porsche Cayenne

they are crap, but it will save yu asking dumb questions on a Land Rover forum. - Hire the fookin things for a weekend and make yo own mind up.

:dnfnoob:

Range Rover sport.

But get the top of the range one - i drove my uncles 4.2 supercharged one last year, fook me... Shift... And handles really well an all.

And I could quite happily live in it its that comfortable.

Dnt get the porsche or the BMW cos they are (almost) all driven by knobs, and at least with the RRsport you could potentially tow something off a field, like a horse box or summat.

And they are nicer by far.

Oh yeah, welcome to LZ, jus dnt mention the BMW of the porker again cos you migh find you need VERY thick skin... :D

Quite why you would want to do your bollocks in on a premium SUV at the moment is something that I cannot understand, (and on finance I'm guessing too?).

Why not a 5 Series, E-Class, A6 etc?

However, if, if I was in a simular position as you, then i think that I would choose a Disco 3. it will do everything that a Range Rover will, except lose money 'quite' as fast.

The only posative thing that I can tell you is that my Disco 1 is an extremely comfatable place to sit in during a 3-4 hour drive.

Hi all

Thanks for the reply, information:)
Sorry to talk about the ..., will not do it more!

Why I like a SUV and not a touring? Well, the feeling of the higher seating is just great, and the wiev around me, on smaller roads, looking over smaller things and cars and so one.

Yes, they are not so ecconomical today....But, a SUV do not use THAt much more fuel than a touring with 4*4 and a big engine do. Sorry if I am saying something very stupid now. But the price for a suv is not whats stoping me. I know what they cost, and it is ok. I am just not sure witch to go for.
......but, the makers of the best 4*4 is a good car, just as Clarkson say over and over....

The Range Rover sport is just a great looking car:) Not sure what you mean with "knobs", but sure I dont wana be one:):)

Will keep looking around, and come back with info....and sure more questions to you all.

He's Swiss so I don't think they have quite the same shaft em and rob philosophy that british car dealers have.

For comfort th Range Rover & Range Rover Sport are hard to beat, many people comment on how restful they are on a long journey. Personally I find the suspension on the Sport a bit stiffer and would go for the Range Rover, but that is a matter of taste, so try them both out.
As to reliability, they can be a bit of a lottery, but I have heard horror tales about some of the others on the list. Just remember that people are quicker to write about the vehicles that have gone wrong, than those that have been remediable.

Davec, thanks for the reply.
Yes, that is tru. I think, and hope, that what some say today, is just some words from the older Land Rovers. And yes, that is tru, the 4*4 from Germany, are far from 100%....I guess if thats what one seek, one have to find a 4*4 from a Japanese maker....and thats NOT going to happend!

I will, as you say, try them out.

Regarding car dealers, they are all trying to rob you.....but, I have heard some bad stuff about the dealers in british...sorry to hear that.

Will come back with what I think after my test drive next week. Have got a Range Rover in mind:)

Have a good sunday evening

VW toureg for the money.Same chassis as the porker KN but cheaper, so you can get a higher spec for the same money.Nice motor, doubt itll ever get muddy and its german so wont break much.

DON'T GET A V10 TOUREG FFS! They are crap! Speaking to a RAC man the other day and he said he has had some many of them break down it is untrue.. The other engines are alright i think...

Thank you all for all help and info.
Well, yes a Toureq is less cash than the rest for Germany...but not so nice looking.

The more I think, read now, the more I like the Rangers..Hmmmm.
Yes, maybe not giving me the best mpg nor the lowest service/repair/running cost and so one. But, maybe the best ride:)

I guess it is hard to find all that, in one 4*4......so, I have to find out what I can and cant live with.....

Like i told my uncle... He has always had Pajeros. Me an dad have been telling him for years to get a RR... now he won't shut up about it.

And, having driven it, it is a seriously nice car...

See if you can arrange a test drive in one, it has to be the supercharged one though.
