Well, after several sceptical posts on here about what my 2001 td5 ES manual 7 seater was actually worth, and being told that I'd be lucky to get 4500-5000 for it, I sold it on sunday for 7600.
Well there are people out there that are prepared to pay good money irrespective of the scare regarding future tax costs.
I advertised it on autotrader and got nothing but scam emails from black fookers in nigeria claiming their name was John Wilson or Paddy O'Rourke, so wacked it on ebay with a start price of 4500.
I didnt even have to let the auction run its course, sold before the end. So, even after being told that the glass's guide price for august was trade £6420 and retail £8845, some folks said that was bollocks and it was only worth £4500-£5000, it proves that if you price it right without giving it away, you'll sell it.
The problem is that there are too many people out there that think they can **** you wholesale because its a gas gussling high tax motor, when in actual fact its a quality motor that is worth the money.
Sorry to see it go but I decided to let the vat man start paying a bit towards the running of a vehicle and now have one of these:

Good price, well done.

Vdub don't look much like a 1963 splitty :( bit more reliable though, eh!
I'd rip into you if I didn't have a 150 tdi Golf myself :D

Back in the eighties my dad ran a lovely 1962 cadilac de ville four door saloon (the one with the big fins) We used to turn a few heads in that.Wouldn't like the fuel bill these days though

What a lovely van the Black one is and now are becoming a serious alternative to the disco, really cool. The splitty is a stunner too. Well done on the price for your Disco as you said before well maintained cars always sell, and there is still money out there.

Good for you mate, well done, pays to stick to ya guns eh :)

Autotrader was a complete waste of time last time I used it as well, like you said, cold callers, spammers, and of course the obligatory african idiots.

I was surprised how bad autotrader is, for the money it costs to advertise in there its a rip off. They may aswell just hand them out free at immigration centres cause they are the only people that must read them. It used to be the best place to buy, sell and guage the price of cars, I would never use it again.
I was worried when it came to selling because of the scremongering about "big" cars not selling or being worth nowt, but it just shows that if you do stick to your guns you'll get rid. The thing is, if you put it up for what the trade says its worth retail, no one will look, if you put it too cheap you get too many messers that want a top spec car for **** all. I think I was lucky or fortunate to get rid so quickly and for a good price. I'm happy!!

In my experience the local rag is one of the very best places to sell these days.......and one of the cheapest, another problem with Autotrader is its so dependant on where you live, I live in Sleaford Lincs, which gives me to options of Midlands or Yorks Autotrader, take a second to think about the possible square miles that covers when you consider Lincs alone is one of the single biggest counties.....far too broad an area.
